Finding the Frame

Two elements I’m almost always looking for when I shoot are contrast and framing. Sometimes, a scene lines up perfectly to offer both. These two core elements are foundational principles in photography and have always been the ones I seem to gravitate toward most.

While out on a photo walk, I noticed a large antenna or cellphone tower. Looking up, the structure itself was interesting, but what truly caught my attention was how the surrounding elements created a natural frame. The positioning of the trees, the leading lines of the road, and the distinct contrast of the blue sky all worked in concert to isolate the tower, drawing the eye directly to it.

It was one of those simple, satisfying compositions that just felt right. For me, the hunt for these little moments, where the world arranges itself into a perfect shot, is one of the best parts of photography. They feel like gems hidden in plain sight that, with a little patience and composition, reveal themselves.
