Perched at the peak of an iron arched fence sits a small, simple ball. On its own, it’s nothing special—kind of basic, really. But what caught my eye wasn’t the ball itself but it’s the context. It stood out as a point of simplicity surrounded by intricate, spade-shaped designs.
There’s something about that contrast that I find fascinating; what can I say, I like what I like 🤷♂️. The simple object becomes the focal point in a sea of complexity. I also loved how the neighboring shapes create an interesting symmetrical frame.
My goal for the photo was to emphasize that feeling of focus. I typically like to use a shallow depth of field to isolate the subject, and this was an ideal opportunity for it. By zeroing in on that central ball, everything else, even the intricate details, just fade away and melt into a blur.
It’s my favorite way to guide the viewer’s eye and highlight the one small detail that tells the whole story.
